LANGUAGE AND SCRIPT

The Armenian language is an independent branch of the Indo-European languages. The inventor of the Armenian alphabet was Mesrop Mashtots (c. 405 A.D.), who created an organic structure formed of 36 letters, a sign for each sound. Three more letters were added later.

Along with the native language, Russian and English are spoken fluently by most Armenians.
