GEOGRAPHY
Armenia lies in the southern Caucasus, in the northeast of the Armenian Upland, occupying 29, 800 sq. km. It is bordered by Turkey to the west (268 km), Georgia to the north (164 km), Iran to the south (35 km), and Azerbaijan to the east (566 km) and southwest (221 km). The average height above sea level is 1,800 meters. The highest peak is Mount Aragats (4,090 meters), the lowest altitude – River Debed (400 meters), the largest lake – Sevan (1,250 square kilometers, c. 2,000 meters above sea level).
